Biography

Kerry Smith is the Team Trudeau candidate for Portage-Lisgar in the upcoming federal election.

For decades, Kerry has been devoted to supporting the residents of her community. As Senior Director of the Manitoba Métis Federation, Kerry has been instrumental in assisting Indigenous families and youth pursue greater opportunities.

Over her 25-year career, Kerry has worked to support members of her community and has assisted over 45,000 Métis people in achieving their training and employment goals. As a community leader, Kerry currently leads a province-wide employment and training department that plays a central role in developing youth leadership, and promoting Métis culture. And as a proven leader who is dedicated to her community’s economic development, she was appointed as a member of the Future Skills Council, providing vital advice on emerging skills and workforce trends.

Passionate about making her community a better place for everyone, for years Kerry has fought to better the lives of people living in Métis communities. She currently lives in Tyndall with her husband and two children.

Kerry is committed to advocating for the needs of Portage–Lisgar. As a Member of Parliament, she will work with Justin Trudeau and the Liberal team to keep Canada moving forward and continue to make life more affordable, grow a strong economy and deliver well-paying middle class jobs, advance reconciliation, and build a fairer and more inclusive Canada.
